What is peer review?

Peer review is the process of giving and receiving constructive feedback on our writing after review from other members of the academic discourse community.

Features of peer review

During week 3 of Writing 37 I learned how to give productive feedback on my peers' writing as well as implement the feedback I received from my peers and professor. Peer review helps us improve our critical reading and analyzing skills as it requires us to analyze others' work to identify connections and questions to offer feedback. It also exposes us to different perspectives and writing styles . Furthermore, the quality of our writing is enhanced as it is subject to the scrutiny of other writers and readers

From the comments I received from my peers on my exploratory draft, I was able to identity areas where I could revise my writing and receive ideas on how to make my writing more engaging. The positive feedback I received also helped bolster my confidence in my writing skills and was a source of encouragement.

Moreover, peer review strengthens our ethos as rhetors as our published work if often reviewed by qualified writers, thereby, giving us credibility as communicators. As our work is reviewed by various people , we can receive different kinds of opinions on our work. We also become a member of academic discourse community as we engage with other members when we actively participate in peer review.
