Writing 37: Intensive Writing/Critical Reading & Rhetoric.
Writing 37: Critical Reading and Rhetoric is a lower division writing class at the University of California, Irvine. As a part of the class, students are expected to complete Genre Analysis, Imitation Project and a Final Portfolio.
The course objectives focus on developing genre awareness, multimodal writing skills and critical reading and writing using metacognitive skills. The theme for winter quarter 2022 is A Slice of Life: Memoir - The Rhetoric of Home, Family, and Self, with an emphasis on identity, language, and ethnicity.
The grading in the class is based on a grade contract that states that students can earn a grade of “B” if they attend lecture, complete weekly assignments on time and meet the minimum requirements for the major assignments. ‘Buffs’ add points for high quality work while ‘dings’ deduce points for the grade.
Here is a link to the course objectives.
